I am a mixed-media artist. I enjoy acrylic, oil and pastels because I get to blend the colours with my fingertips; I love the feeling of being closer to and becoming part of what I create. I even find myself using my fingers while painting with acrylics on canvas. I was born in a small country in South Asia during an ongoing civil war between two parties that lasted three decades. I witnessed lots of my close friends and family members returning from the front lines of the war with amputated limbs and various kinds of brain damage caused by the bomb blasts or in black coffins draped with the national flag. Seeing firsthand the difficulties of the educational system, and the ongoing war situation, and desperate to save my mind from traumatic psychological states, I started a different type of painting. As we all know, times of war usually inspire artists to express their position on the conflict. Some are snatched up for propaganda campaigns, but others present the war as accurately and neutrally as possible--as a photographer would.
I prefer to work with the human figure and have moved on from realistic figures to dynamic, figurative abstracts that reflect the very specific colours and organic lines inspiring much of my work. My objective is to capture the emotion and dynamics of human life in all the different life areas. Sometimes I strive to depict religion, philosophy, sex and other aspects of our lives. Usually, I am confident with mixed media on canvas and fabric. My artwork stimulates unconscious emotions, desires, and sexual compulsions, all unified within a dynamic that vacillates between reality and fantasy. As an artist, the beauty of the piece inspires me to capture the emotion and dynamics of human life, like happiness, love and joy.
