“Arts from the peace” Art Show Winnipeg
I will be exhibiting works with The Edge Gallery (Main & Logan) 210-611 Main Street, Winnipeg, this February 27-28th 12 – 6 pm (Artists meet on 27th and 28th afternoons from 4 – 6 pm). The war was a tragedy for Sri Lankans of all stripes, and during our time here, I’ve found it hard to believe that such a conflict was even possible.
For over 30 years, this civil war caused significant hardships for the population, environment and the economy of the country, with an estimated 150,000–200,000 people killed during its course.
As a Sri Lankan citizen and artist, I am happy that the conflict and war have ended once for all, promising the period of hope, peace and progress for the country.
As an artist, the beauty of the peace inspires me to capture the emotion and dynamics of human life like happiness, love and joyfulness.

Nuwan Fonseka created this beautiful painting for this year’s Manitoba Addictions Awareness Week. The artist’s goal is to capture our minds and bring awareness of issues affecting individuals, families and communities to the forefront. Nuwan uses art as a way to make sense of life; escaping all human limits and allowing others to enter the realms of childhood visions and dreams. He describes art as a powerful media which he finds very effective when working with individuals and families: Marilyn Linklater

Life beats down and crushes the soul and art remind you that you have one (Stella Adler 1992).
Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen (Leonardo da Vinci).
